Would you like to take a vacation to The Blue Mountains? This mountainous region is only 48km from Sydney and the area is a sandstone plateau containing gorges of up to 760m in depth, with the highest point being 1,190m above sea level. The Blue Mountains is incorporated in the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site in which belong seven national parks and a conservation reserve.

This area is ‘chock a block’ full of Australian icons; such as The Three Sisters and The Giant Staircase - a walking track that runs down a cliff into the Jamison Valley, offering access to extensive nature walks through the valley. If you don’t fancy the nature walks then the Scenic Skyway is for you - a glass-bottom aerial cable car that traverses an arm of the Jamison Valley, or you can take the Katoomba Scenic Railway - the cable railway line descends 415m through sandstone cliffs, via a rock tunnel with a maximum gradient of 52 degrees.

Then there are the Jenolan Caves - a spectacular series of limestone caves that is regarded as one of the world's best and the Zig Zag Railway - an old-fashioned railway with steam-powered engines near Lithgow and the Toy Museum at Leura, is also home to an interesting collection of toys and trains.

Maybe a visit to The Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum in Springwood operated by The National Trust of Australia, the gallery houses a wide variety of artwork including paintings, etchings, model sailing ship replicas and sculptures.
