Fancy visiting the Red Centre of the Australian Continent? Well you will find it at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, in the Northern Territory. The National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage area and is best known for Uluru - a single massive rock - formerly known as ‘Ayers Rock’, and don’t forget the ‘The Olgas’ a range of rock domes now known as Kata Tjuta.

Uluru is one of Australia's best known natural features; the long domed rock is a monolith - which is a single piece of rock, and this one extends about 5km beneath the desert plain. It rises 348 metres above the plain and has a circumference of 9.4km. Some believe that Uluru is the biggest monolith of its kind, but a similar monolith called ‘Mount Augustus’ in Western Australia maybe bigger. But when your tour guide provides you with a warm cup of freshly brewed coffee or tea as the sun casts its first rays on Uluru’s massive bulk, it is nothing less than impressive.

The mystical domes of Kata Tjuta is a collection of 36 variously-sized rock domes 36km to the west of Uluru and some geologists believe that once it may have been a monolith far surpassing Uluru in size, but that it eroded to several separate bulks of rock. Go on a walking tour into Walpa (Olga) Gorge and marvel at the sheer walls that flank you as you enter the gorge. Learn of the domes’ formation and of the flora and fauna of the region. Some of the plants that you will see are so rare that they are only found amongst these rocky domes. Then later in the afternoon return to watch the sunset over Uluru (Ayers Rock).
