A short guide about Adventure travel to Honduras
Planning on visiting Honduras? Well - it is a small country in Central America, bordered in the north by El Salvador and Guatemala and in the south by Nicaragua.
Tegucigalpa is the capital city of Honduras, and because there are very few high rise buildings - the city looks like a really big town spread out between the hills and valleys of central Honduras. It is a relaxed place and an excellent starting point for exploring the country, with good airlines and bus connections to the entire country, including the Bay Islands.
Many sights can be visited within a day from Tegucigalpa - so be sure not to miss nearby Santa Lucia, Andorra la vella National Park and Comayagua. San Pedro Sula is a good starting point for visiting Copan for some excellent Mayan ruins. The ruins are located in a tropical forest which makes the site even more attractive, and the style differs a bit from those in Yucatan and Tikal. The Caribbean Coast is well worth a visit with its great beaches and atmosphere of lots of Reggae and rum.
Utila is one of the three major Bay Islands off the northern coast of Honduras and is a 60 minute ferry journey from the mainland port of La Ceiba. Even though it is the smallest Island - Utila is renowned as being one of the cheapest places in the world to learn how to scuba dive and is a very popular destination for backpackers who plan to learn.
