A short guide about Rome

Come and visit Rome – the fabled Eternal City is so romantic and her exuberant fountains; such as the Triton Fountain, does not cease from the flow of hundreds of miles of aqueducts. Rome is the third-most-visited tourist destination in the European Union, it’s listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and as a modern city it has been the capital of Italy since 1870.

Visit the centre of the Roman Empire, which dominated Europe, North Africa and the Middle East for four hundred years from the 1st Century BC till the 4th Century AD. Rome is the home of the Roman Catholic Church and the site of the independent state; Vatican City. Here you can visit the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums – a complex of museums, considered the finest collection of art on the planet. Tour St Peter’s Basilica – a magnificent and ancient structure that features a large number of artworks, including Michelangelo’s Pieta, a museum and underground tombs of former popes.

Visit the Pantheon – at more than 1,800 years old, the 141 foot dome is the major attraction and was the largest dome in the world until 1436. Tour the Colosseum – the setting for gruesome public entertainment, to this day it attracts more visitors than any other historic structure in Rome. For urban Roman architecture visit Trajan’s Market – built between 107 and 110 A.D. Tour one of Rome’s most unique and interesting museums – the Museum of Roman Civilization is an illustration of the history of civilization in Rome.

There is also the Villa Borghese to visit; the largest public park in Rome – stroll through Villa Borghese or visit the Bioparco – Rome Zoo, which sits in the centre of the park. There is the Piazza Barberini and Triton Fountain and the Arch of Septimius Severus is located at the western end of the Forum. Tour the Baths of Caracalla – built between 212 and 219 A.D., the complex was originally decorated with elaborate mosaics and statues.
