A short guide about Venice

Venice is still one of the most interesting and lovely places in the world, and this sanctuary on a lagoon is virtually the same as it was six hundred years ago, which adds to its fascinating character. Venice is built on one hundred and seventeen small islands, and holds one hundred and fifty canals, connected by an amazing four hundred and nine bridges, of which only three cross the main canal.

The attractions in Venice include many remarkable structures, such as an impressive array of bronze work, tapestries and paintings from the 5th to 6th century, as well as a whole handful of amazing buildings and galleries showcasing the artistic side of Venice. So while you’re here take a little look at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection; which contains one of the most outstanding art collections in the world.

Enjoy a tour of St Marks Square in the heart of Venice – where tourists flock to the square to explore many of the city’s main attractions including St Marks Basilica, Doge’s Palace, Torre dell’Orologio (the Clock Tower), and Piazetta San Marco, just to name a few. Most tourists dream of being serenaded down the Grand Canal that begins at the Piazetta San Marco, and is best explored by Gondola or motorboat. Here you can view the Palazzo Pisani; whose significant architecture is one of the most beautiful points along the Grand Canal.

Visit the Chiesa di San Giacomo di Rialto, also called San Giacometo which is considered to be the oldest church in Venice. Also visit the San Zaccaria; a Gothic church that houses works of art, and the San Rocco which features canvases by Tintoretto. And don’t forget the Naval History Museum; featuring everything from Second World War torpedoes and artillery pieces to decorative 17th and 18th century gondola prows.
