A short guide about Denali National Park

If you would like to visit the Denali National Park – you’ll discover that it is a United States National Park and home to Mt McKinley; North America's highest mountain, and known to the native Athabascan Indians as Denali.

The park is an outdoor paradise, and offers activities for visitors of all ages and experience levels, and when touring the six million acres of the Denali National Park you’ll find that it is best known for the 20,320 foot Mt McKinley. The park is located in Southcentral Alaska, 240 miles north of Anchorage and 120 miles south of Fairbanks, and protects an incredible wilderness area that contains grizzly bears, caribou, moose, wolves, and numerous other creatures.

Just about every famous nature photographer will at some point make a visit to Denali for its tremendous landscapes and abundance of wildlife and even the amateur photographer will appreciate the opportunity. The park is a great for naturally trekking at your own pace as there are a handful of trails within the park, but the majority of visitors will eventually find themselves picking out their own path. Permits are required for all overnight stays, but it is possible for a backpacker to travel for days without seeing another human.

Mountaineering in the park is quite popular as the Denali itself is one of the most challenging climbs in the world, but climbers from all over are drawn to it, as well as to the other peaks of the Alaska Range. Whitewater rafting is also available on the near-freezing waters of the Nenana River, which parallels the Parks Highway. But for the not so adventurist – there are bus tours to see the park interior; such as the "Tundra Wilderness Tour" and "Denali Natural History Tour".
