Nadi International Airport is located 9 kilometers from the city of Nadi; it is the largest airport in Fiji and is served by quite a number of international airlines – even though it is on the opposite side of the nation's capital and largest city; Suva. As Nadi is the principal port of entry for air travellers you’ll discover that this destination is multiracial, with many of its inhabitants being Indian or Fijian – making Nadi the centre for Hinduism and Islam in Fiji.
The Nadi region has a higher concentration of hotels and motels than any other part of Fiji, so along with its sugar cane production; tourism is a mainstay of the local economy. The downtown area is defined by the Nadi River and Viseisei Village on the west side, and the beautiful Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple on the east. It is the largest Hindu temple in the Southern hemisphere, and is a site for pilgrims. Muslims worship at the Nadi Mosque, and the Ahmadiyyahs worship at the Ahmadiya Mosque.
Being the hub of commerce and tourism, Nadi is popular among travellers seeking to take ferries to island resorts in Fiji's western Mamanuca Group of islands. The town is also close to the western mud-flat beaches, and the Nausori highlands to the east where one can access the Sabeto Valley and Sigatoka Valley. Other sites are the Waqadra Botanical Gardens, and the Sleeping Giant Gardens.
