Compared to its width – Chile has the honour of being the thinnest country in the world, stretching down the side of South America its north contains the driest of deserts – some parts of the Atacama Desert have not seen rain since 1870, while other parts enjoy the "desierto florido" or "flowering desert". The south of Chile is the closest point to the South Pole, and midway; Chile offers some of the easiest ascents to the Andes Mountains.

All the way down its length are many towns that were early mining settlements – here you can visit the city of Calama; which has the largest open Copper mine in the world, and also provides history tours. Only an hour away is San Pedro de Atacama; a small picturesque town that is very popular with foreign tourists who arrive to admire the Inca architecture, the Altiplano Lakes, and the Valley of the Moon

Visit Putre, also in the North for the Chungara Lake, as well as the volcanoes of Parinacota and Pomerape. The central port city of Valparaiso with its unique architecture is a popular tourist spot and throughout the central Andes; you’ll find many ski resorts of international repute, like Portillo and Valle Nevado.

In the south, the main tourist sites to visit are the Chiloe Archipelago and the Arctic South of Patagonia Chilena, here you can explore the incredible beauty of the Laguna San Rafael National Park with its many glaciers and the Torres del Paine National Park, as well as Puerto Montt; the bustling port city and capital of the Chile's Lake District. And finally – Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean is one of the main Chilean tourist destinations.
