The cloistered Monasterio de Santa Catalina was built in 1580 in Arequipa, Peru. In 1970 the monastery was opened to the public to pay for the installation of electricity and running water and has now become Arequipa’s prime tourist attraction.

The world's second highest active volcano Cotopaxi (5897m) is situated about 50 km south of Quito, Ecuador.
